Crackle top coat is a nail polish that creates a dinosaur egg, peek-a-boo effect with the underlying color. As it dries, it cracks and separates, showing off the nail color below.

Crackle nail polish cracks because the formula contains a high percentage of ethyl acetate that evaporates rapidly, creating an increase in surface tension, which makes the crackle polish dry quickly and separate.

Shown over Sally Hansen Color Therapy Savasan-ahhh, Vintage Violet is a dark purple shimmer that’s fun and pretty to look at.

In the above swatches, the first swatch shows a thicker coat and the bottom two swatches show thinner coats.

When you apply thicker coats of crackle polish, the cracks are more distinct and separated. With thinner coats, the cracks finer and closer together.

Which of these crackle nail polish looks do you prefer?

Two fun elements about crackle nail polish is that you can experiment with other base colors each time for a completely different look and it can make your older nail polishes look and feel new again.

To use Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat: shake to mix the pigments and apply 1 thin or thick layer (depending on your preferred finish) over top of any contrasting nail color, then seal with your favorite quick dry top coat.
